Weekend Report

Weekend Report

This weekend was the final days for the county fair. Went to the Demolition Derby Friday night, which was awsome as usual. This year, it was won by a woman driver! Last year a woman driver came in third, so it was only a matter of time. Then Saturday We went to the Combine Demolition Derby. They had about a dozen combines, which is more than the years past, and it was also more exciting than the years past. There was also a woman driver in this competition, and she came in second place. We actually got up and left before it was over. The last two just kept going at it, and neither one of them would die, and we got bored. Of course right after we left, something happened to the womens combine, and the competition was over.

This comic pretty much sums up the last week or so here. I can't remember anymore when the last day was that the humidity was less than 90% Most of the time, when I check it, it says somewhere between 93-98%. Ugh! Today temp is a high of 98. Bigger Ugh!

REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon

Last night at the fair we saw REO Speedwagon, with openener, Foghat.

Foghat has apparently come out with some new albums over the last few years, as I know only about two and a half songs from their entire setlist. And they were near the end. I never even fathomed that classic rock bands would come out with new albums, but more power to them. They were pretty good none-the-less.

REO Speedwagon, on the other hand, hasn't come out with a new album in ten years. Most of the songs they playesd where the ones I knew and loved. They are comming out with a new album they said, and they played quite a few songs from that, which sound pretty darn good. But everything thy played, they just rocked. From the first song throught he encore, they platyed each and every song as if it were the last one of the day. That is what made the concert last night so outrageously good. The sound quality, the light, and the absolute rockingness of REO Speedwagon made last nights concert just completely unbelievable. If you ever get a chance to see them in concert, I highly recommend it!

Fair Abound

Fair Abound

Last Thursday was the first day of our county fair. As many of you may know, I love going to the fair. I can't get enough of all the fried foods. Well this year we decided we weren't going to go every day, but only on days that we were going to see the grandstand shows. The problem was, I wanted to see at least half of them. But we limited it down a to a few. Starting last night.

Last night was the Pink Floyd Tribute band called Eclipse. The show started out late. The was the second show, after Raven performed. Well she ran over, about 15 minutes or so. We were in line to enter the Grandstands at 9 P.M., and she didn't even finish until 9:15ish. So the entire Eclipse show got off to a late start.

Then the other problems happened. The projector setup for the large circular screen apparently didn't work, (We sat right behind the soundstage) some of the stage lights weren't working, and the sound guy didn't know what he was doing apparently.

As the show went on, things got better. The screen never worked at all. Some of the stage lights came online about halfway through the show, although to make up for it, a couple of the others had went out. The sound did get better too. They put on a great show overall. I would have loved to have seen it in it's full force though. They finished up about midnight.

Tonight we are going to see Foghat and R.E.O. Speedwagon. Shawn says if they experience the same problems, he's gonna kill someone.

Humidity Sucks

Humidity Sucks

I rode the motorcyce to work today. It was so humid that water droplets were forming on my helmet and sunglasses. I had to ride with the helmet visor up, and constantly wipe off my suinglasses so that I could see. When I got to work, i was actually damp from the ride in. Ugh. And it's only supposed to get worse.

10 Years

10 Years

It's incredible to think that last year I graduated college. And over the weekend I got my notice for our 10 year high school reunion. Ugh, 10 years. I feel old.

Click, Click, BOOM!

Click, CLick, BOOM!

Well, more like pop, pop, pop, pop...........BOOOOOM! "Oh my God! It blew up in her hand!" is all I heard from my chair while lighting off bottle rockets. I looked up to Christina an saw her looking at me with this hioghly confused face. I looked down at her outstreatched arm, and saw her hand, black. She starts walking towards the house, and I ask "Did it blow up in your hand?!" as my bottle rocket whistled past my ear. "Duh!" she said, as she broke out into a very fast paced walk. We all ran to the kitchen to get her hand in water. She said it didn't hurt yet. So Shawn told her to get the engagement ring off. I gave her some antibacterial soap and said "Start scrubbing until it does hurt!" She did.

What had happened? Christina had lit off the first one of the first pack of the day of her favorite firework, a Roman Candle. She was holding it in her hand, as pretty much everyone does. It went off 4 times, then stopped. It was an 8 shot. Then it just exploded in her hand.

She didn't want to go to the hospital, because she doesn't have insurance. She has no insurance between the time she gratuated, until we get married. She was going to buy a third party insurance until the wedding. It was going to cost her pretty much every spare dime she had. "How hurt could you possibly get between now and then? I asked. I am eating my words now, thank you.

So we went to my friend Scott's house. He lives next to his parents. His mom is a nurse. She came over, looked at it, and said, "Oh, you'll be OK" and walks away. Now this woman freaks out about everyhting, no matter what. The fact that she didn't freak out made Scott and I feel much better. '

OK, long story short. We soaked her hand in water, it made her feel better. We lit off fireworks for a few hours with Scott. She carried around salad bowl of ice water. We got home at midnight. She was in so much pain she stayed up all night. By mid-morning her hand quit throbbing long enough for her to sleep a little. The swelling went down some today. It definately doesn't look as bad. She doesn;t need to soak it every three minutes to feel better. She keeps it moist with antibacterial cream. We took pictures last night but the flash whitewashed it. We took sone tonight, trust me, the picture looks better than it really is, and it looks alot better than it was yesterday.
